ジョー・ダフリティは脚本家、監督、ドキュメンタリー監督。オスカーノミネート監督ジョン・シングルトン（『Boyz N the Hood』）のアシスタントとしてそのキャリアを始めたジョーは、クリエイティヴ・アーティスツ・エージェンシーとの契約を20代前半に結び、脚本家として成功を収めた。しかし書いた脚本が制作過程のなかで色あせるのを見るにつけ、自分の手で映画を作ることを決意する。最初の力作、『Seven Days in Japan』は2005年のSan Diego Comic-con International Film Festivalで最優秀ドキュメンタリーに選ばれた。ジョーはコロンビア大学の卒業生で、アメリカ脚本家協会の会員である。

This was a cute movie, I wish it was longer. There was a lot of chemistry between the two main characters.

I can relate to Daphne. i think the connection between the two was easy and not forced. i enjoyed the movie. i just wish it was feature length and explored more. but i realy liked the connection. it added flavor to the movie without trying to.

Able to convey the feelings in short space of time convincingly e.g. Akira's feelings does not seem forced, good acting. But it is way too short. Good work, i wish it was full length with many more deeper and relatable scenes!

I loved it, for a short film, I found it to be a good representation of some peoples idea of people "sticking to their kind.. Interracial dating, marriage and family life is something that I approve of whole heartedly, We are all human beings after all, we bleed, we cry, we rejoice, we love the same...with our hearts not always with our heads. Who is to say that this relationship couldn't work. To much stigmatism has been placed on interracial realtionships, particularly within the asian and black communities. This short film brings it to the forefront...realistically, straight no chaser. I for one, would like to watch more of these types of film...Congratulations to Mr. Doughrity for making a film such as "Akira's Hip Hop Shop". It's time people, the heart knows no color, and God is not partial.. that's why so many of us were created..in so many wonderful shades and ethnic background....so who are we to judge his creations?
